Description

LeadingAge Southeast is seeking a talented, mission-driven Director of Communications to lead the strategy and execution of our Association’s communications and messaging across all platforms.  This is a highly visible, hands-on role that blends creativity, strategic thinking, and strong organizational skills to tell our story and engage members throughout the Southeast.

As part of a collaborative leadership team, the Director of Communications will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Director of Membership, Education & Events, and the Public Policy team to deliver clear, consistent, and compelling communications that advance the mission of LeadingAge Southeast.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and implement an annual communications plan encompassing internal and external messaging, media relations, and digital engagement.
• Manage all Association communications platforms—including social media, website content, newsletters, email alerts, and printed publications.
• Oversee the production of the Association’s twice-yearly magazine and other major communication projects.
• Develop media relationships and ensure consistent, high-quality brand and message alignment.
• Collaborate with colleagues to promote events, public policy initiatives, and member programs.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for incoming media inquiries, ensuring timely, accurate responses that reflect the Association’s priorities and amplify our message.
• Plan, coordinate, and support PR-focused events and announcements, including press opportunities, media briefings, and public-facing initiatives that elevate LeadingAge Southeast’s visibility.
• Proactively develop and execute strategic media outreach, including pitching story ideas, crafting press materials, and cultivating relationships with reporters to position the Association as a go-to source on aging-services issues.

 What We’re Looking For

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated experience in communications planning and execution.
• Strong understanding of digital media platforms and content development.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities independently.
• Experience in media relations, public relations, or news response, including comfort engaging with reporters, crafting press materials, or supporting PR-driven events.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and modern communications tools (e.g., Constant Contact, Canva, social scheduling platforms).
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.

Location & Work Environment

This position is based in Tallahassee, Florida and works primarily on-site from the Association’s office, with limited travel to member events and conferences.

Requirements

Requires exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Experience in communications and messaging planning and execution required. Experience with and the ability to utilize social media platforms to deliver key messages and grow audiences required.

The Director of Communications is expected to perform independently with minimal guidance. Ability to organize, think, write independently and creatively, monitor and manage multiple projects, set goals and priorities, and meet deadlines. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, and other computer software, as needed. This position requires a highly motivated, detail oriented and dependable individual.
