Overview
Measures and calculates radiation dose and develops optimum arrangement of radiation fields and exposures to treat patient under the supervision of the Radiation Oncologist. Coordinates and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to facilitate for integrated and comprehensive care.
Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred. BLS, Registry eligible and certified within 2 years of hire

At Sentara Cancer Network, we’re proud of our distinction as the first Integrated Network Cancer Program (INCP) in Virginia as designated by the American College of Surgeons Commission (ACoS) on Cancer. In close partnership with distinguished and caring team of physicians both from Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) and Virginia Oncology Associates (VOA), Sentara radiation oncology program includes a dedicated and experienced team of oncology administration, managers, medical physicists, dosimetrists, radiation therapists, oncology nurses, allied professionals, and support staff.
Our clinical technologies include Varian family of Accelerators including Edge and TrueBeam, Nucletron HDR, Eclipse, ARIA, Identify, RadFormation, MIM, Mobius, Sun Nuclear and IBA, etc. In addition to routine EBRT (3-D, IMRT, VMAT, SRS/SBRT, IGRT, 4D CT, DIBH, Gating, and SGRT) and brachytherapy (HDR for GYN, Skin and Breast (SAVI), Prostate Seed Implants) treatments, we also offer Radiopharmaceutical therapies such as I-131, Lutethera, Pluvicto, Xofigo and Y-90. Our medical physics team is supported and equipped with a generous array of equipment for quality testing of our treatment plans and treatment delivery to ensure patient safety.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Director of medical physics and dosimetry, onsite medical physicist (s), the incumbent collaborates with department manager, radiation oncologists and radiation therapy staff and provides medical dosimetry services related to all external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) modalities, as described above, to include but not limited to 1. design of treatment plans by means of computer and/or manual computation with optimal beam geometry to deliver a prescribed radiation dose and spare critical structures in accordance with the radiation oncologist's prescription, 2. identification and contouring of normal and dose-limiting structures by utilizing images from one or more data sets, such as CT, MRI and PET, 3. creating and transferring reference images and localization markers for portal verification and treatment delivery to include DRRs, CBCTs and other IGRT methods, as specified, 4. supervision, performance and assistance in simulations and tumor localization using specified imaging modalities, 5. assistance in the planning and implementation of the fabrication of compensation filters, custom shields, wedges, molds, immobilization devices and other beam modifying devices, 6. communication with the radiation therapist(s) in an advisory role in the implementation of the complex treatment plans, 7. performing calculations for the accurate delivery of the prescribed dose, document all pertinent information in the patient record 8. assistance and technical support to the medical physicist on the quality assurance of treatment plans and radiation oncology equipment. 9. participation in the teaching of medical dosimetry to students, radiation therapists and residents and 10. active participation in policy and procedures, clinical trials, staff education, workflow initiatives, quality improvement and practice standardization.

Education
Associate’s Degree in Medical Dosimetry or Radiology Technology REQUIRED
Certification/Licensure
ARRT Certification REQUIRED
Certified Medical Dosimetrist Certification REQUIRED
Experience
5 years prior Dosimetrist experienced STRONGLY PREFERRED
5 years Radiation Therapy experience REQUIRED
