Description

The Network Director of Philanthropy is a key leadership position in the planning and execution of a comprehensive, integrated, and transformative network-wide philanthropy program for the UVM Health Network. The position has strategic and functional oversight of the development teams at six of the seven network affiliates (Home Health and Hospice, Central Vermont Medical Center, Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, Elizabethtown Community Hospital, Alice Hyde Medical Center, and Porter Medical Center) and collaborates on development strategies for the seventh affiliate (UVM Medical Center). The position also manages a central network development team and serves as a senior leader on the UVM Academic Health Sciences (AHS) development team. The position elevates both the visibility and effectiveness of development across the network and serves as a collaborative resource in building a culture of philanthropy within each affiliate by meaningfully engaging network and affiliate leaders and trustees. 

Network-wide priorities for this role include the design and implementation of robust grateful patient and family programs; major gift fundraising including pipeline development; board, volunteer, and leadership engagement and training; and campaign management and case development for philanthropic priorities. The Network Director also maintains, cultivates, and solicits a portfolio of principal & major gift prospects across the network.

The Network Director provides leadership, oversight, and guidance to the development teams at the six affiliates to ensure that they meet philanthropic goals identified in collaboration with affiliate presidents and network leadership. The position provides critical mentorship to the development leads at each affiliate, partnering with them to develop and implement strategies, business plansand affiliate-specific and network-wide campaigns. A central network team that currently includes a senior planned giving officer, a prospect strategist, and a development coordinator is managed by the Network Director and contributes to the achievement of the affiliates’ goals.

The Network Director prioritizes the identification of new opportunities for a unified and strategic approach to philanthropy within the network and serves as a key partner in the evolution of centralized services in areas such as annual giving, data and gift administration, communications, stewardship, and special events. 

As a member of the Chief Development Officer’s leadership team, this position contributes to the development of fundraising strategies for the full AHS enterprise at UVM which includes the Larner College of Medicine and College of Nursing and Health Sciences, as well as the network affiliates; ensures alignment of AHS activities around major gift fundraising, centralized resources, and training; and collaborates to enhance the effectiveness and culture of the AHS team.



Requirements

Education:  

  •  Baccalaureate degree required and an advanced degree preferred



Experience:

  • At least ten years of professional development experience preferred, with specific experience within an academic medical center, healthcare, or a large community development / social services organization.

  • A demonstrated track record in the design and execution of successful fundraising campaigns involving a broad cross-section of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Experience creating and executing strategic planfor complex projects and organizations.

  • Accomplishment in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding major gifts at the $100,000 + level.

  • Ability to be efficiently self-supporting with basic office technology. Knowledge of database systems and desktop publishing software including PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Word, and Raiser’s Edge or other fundraising database systems.

  • Ability to initiate and build long-term relationships with prospective individual donor partners.

  • This position requires frequent regional travel in northern New York and Vermont and the candidate must have a valid driver’s license.
