MaineHealth/Geriatric Medicine Physician Assistant – Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

Portland, Maine

Maine Medical Partners Division of Geriatrics at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine is currently seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our team at our Maine Medical Center (MMC). The APP will be responsible for providing care for hospitalized older adults in the role of a consultant, including assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating and educating patients regarding geriatrics syndromes. Works closely with physicians and other clinicians in a team approach to patient care.  This person will work in the inpatient and acute rehab settings. The PA or NP will work with a team of geriatricians and other APPs in a shared patient model. 

Hours are four 10-hour days or five 8 hour days

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Current NP/PA license issued by the State of Maine or eligible for licensure, Acute Care Certification needed for NP.
  • Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Two years of Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with staff physicians, nursing and allied health professionals, other hospital staff and patients.  Act as a liaison between medical and other staff.
  • Knowledge of patient assessment techniques including taking medical histories, performing physicals, evaluating health status, including state of wellness and compliance with care recommendations.
  • Skill in case management, time management, problem solving, crisis intervention, multitasking and other organizational matters.
  • Ability to make responsible decisions within scope of NP/PA Practice.
  • Ability to educate patients, families, and staff in user-friendly manner.
  • Strong computer skills with skill in using computerized health information management system.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
