HARTZ Search has been engaged by our client, Main Line Health, on a nationwide search for their new Vice Chair of Surgery. Main Line Health is seeking an accomplished and collaborative physician leader to serve as Vice Chair of Surgery. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced surgeon to play a key leadership role within the Department of Surgery while maintaining an active clinical practice. This nationwide search is an intentional succession plan for the incumbent, Chair of Surgery at Main Line Health.
Reporting to the Chair of Surgery, the Vice Chair will partner closely with the Chair and the Vice President of Surgical Services to advance the Department's clinical, operational, academic, and strategic priorities.
The Vice Chair will support the continued growth and development of Surgical Services across Main Line Health, helping align programs across inpatient and ambulatory settings, strengthen physician engagement, advance quality and safety initiatives, and support excellence in patient care, education, and research.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Chair of Surgery and departmental leadership with strategic planning and departmental priorities.
- Serve as Acting Chair in the Chair of Surgery's absence.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Surgical Services to support operational metrics, departmental policies, and performance standards.
- Help advance the growth and development of Surgical Services across inpatient and ambulatory settings.
- Promote physician engagement, collaboration, quality, patient safety, and clinical excellence.
- Participate in divisional morbidity and mortality conferences.
- Fulfill Graduate Medical Education (GME) responsibilities supporting undergraduate and graduate medical education.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and collaborative partner to surgical and organizational leadership.
- Maintain an active clinical practice.
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree, or equivalent medical degree.
- Board certification by the American Board of Surgery.
- Current or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in Pennsylvania.
- At least 10 years of clinical practice experience.
- Demonstrated leadership experience within a hospital, health system, academic medical center, or surgical department.
- Strong commitment to quality, patient safety, physician engagement, and clinical excellence.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
